Israelis have a reputation for chutzpah, defined by Leo Rosten in “The Joys of Yiddish” as “that quality enshrined in a man who, having killed his father and mother, throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan.”
Clearly, it is a quality not confined to Israelis because our “Palestinian” cousins also possess it – in spades!
Follow.
Mahmoud Abbas (aka Abu Mazen), the “President” of the so-called Palestinian Authority, recently entered into a “national unity government” with Hamas. Abu Mazen and his “government” are in the so-called “West Bank”. Hamas is in the Gaza Strip. In between is Israel.
Hamas is firing rockets at Israel. Israel has an early-warning system (pre-dating the Iron Dome interceptor system) called Code Red, which activates air-raid alarms throughout Israel whenever a barrage of rockets from our dear “cousins” is imminent, giving us time (the amount of which depends on how far removed you are from the source of fire) to scramble for shelter.
Sometimes, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad either overshoot, or fall short of the mark – especially when aiming at Jerusalem, a city which they claim is holy to Muslims and which houses, amongst sites sacred to Jews and Christians, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, in defence of which, against the evil Zionists, the Muslims of Jerusalem periodically go on the rampage. In such cases, their missiles are likely to hit Ramallah, Hebron, Bethlehem and other cities in the “Palestinian Territories”.
The Palestinian Authority doesn’t have a Code Red early warning system. They are therefore demanding that ISRAEL warn them of incoming rocket attacks from Gaza.
That’s right. The Palestinian Authority, which has a national unity government of which Hamas is part, is demanding that ISRAEL warn them whenever HAMAS rockets are aimed at Jerusalem and likely to overshoot the mark and land on “Palestinian” targets.
Chutzpah, did I say?
A great blog. Calling it chutzpah is just great… Will link to it….
Thank you, David.
I am speechless!!
Gobsmacking, isn’t it? 🙂
Do you think that if we warned them every hour or so, they’d be so exhausted from running for shelter and interrupted sleep, they’d stop shooting? Just a thought. 😛
I don’t think so – because the ones doing the shooting are in the Gaza Strip and the ones who are demanding that we warn them are in the “West Bank”. And the ones doing the shooting don’t give two hoots for the rest.
“Don’t return fire on our allies, but warn us when they launch rockets at you so we can protect our people.”
They seem to have no concept of responsibility – and don’t like the consequences of shaking hands with a live hand-grenade.
The irony is, they seem not to have considered the idea of having their “friends” in Gaza warn them.
BTW – I have heard speculation that Hamas deliberately targeted Ramallah.
