Hypocrisy

In a report filed today by the Telegraph’s Peter Foster, I read that the Sri Lankan air force has bombed an orphanage in a Tamil Tigers compound, killing 61 teenage girls. Now the Sri Lankan government claims that the air force attack was aimed at a known rebel centre and has denied targeting civilians. Sounds familiar? For those of you who might have missed the parallels, I should just add that the Sri Lankan government accuses the rebels of using civilians as human shields and insists that the orphanage was, in fact, a rebel training centre.
That’s where the parallel ends.
Where is the outrage of the international community? Where are the Security Council Resolutions? Where are the demonstrations throughout Europe, in support of the Tamil "militants"? Where is the condemnation of the massacre carried out by the Sri Lankan air force?
Oh, sorry. I forgot. They aren’t Israelis…

About Shimona from the Palace

Born in London, the UK, I came on Aliyah in my teens and now live in Jerusalem, where I practice law. I am a firm believer in the words of Albert Schweitzer: "There are two means of refuge from the sorrows of this world - Music and Cats." To that, you can add Literature. To curl up on the sofa with a good book, a cat at one's feet and another one on one's lap, with a classical symphony or concerto in the background - what more can a person ask for?
